Oxford and Cambridge Club North Library Restoration

The North Library was in desperate need of restoration. It had old lining paper that was holding everything together but that was peeling and had huge cracks in it. We had to scrape all the paper off which revealed the walls and ceiling in a terrible condition. Everything was replastered with mesh to achieve nice straight walls and ceiling. This was no mean feat in such a massive room of huge proportions, with an especially high ceiling. We used an especially large tower to work from rather than scaffolding which would have been too much of a weight for the floor to hold. We worked hard with the in-house Interior Designer to create a more modern and imaginative green palette in varying shades of green, but still in keeping with the heritage of the building. The decorative plasterwork got some gold leaf treatment to bring it to life, with some being picked out. Finally, the ceiling rose was painted and gilded too all undertaken by our in-house team of specialists.
