Private Residence
London

Renovated by property developers, this grand apartment felt rather masculine, with the pale grey interiors giving it a cool, hotel–like feel. Featuring 4 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, a study and kitchen / dining room, the property was a blank canvas waiting to be transformed into a home. Our client wanted a range of bespoke finishes to give the apartment a warmer feel with more character.

We began by painting all of the walls off-white – adding immediate warmth to the vast space. Our client wanted to extend the beautiful parquet flooring which had been installed on the ground floor throughout the lower ground floor. We agreed it would unite the two levels and again add warmth and we went on to manage this process for her.

In the study, the impressive fireplace and surrounding wall panels had been painted white. We decided to further add warmth to the room by painstakingly recreating the wood grain across all of the wood. We also worked hand in hand with our client to select the silk fabric for the curtains throughout the apartment, and created a range of bespoke finishes to highlight and complement the colours.

We felt the open plan apartment could benefit from separating areas. We gilded sections of the ceiling, cornices and skirting and continued this gold theme throughout, again imbuing warmth. We created a subtle pattern of gold inlaid onto the pale pink polished plaster wall leading from the kitchen through to the living room. In the snug, we added a finish of fading gold to the wall, creating a cosy space for relaxing in.

In the dining room, we added wow factor by resurfacing the large wall with verre (glass) egolomise, using subtle white 12 carat gold. The bevelled edges of the panels were gilded with 24 carat yellow gold. With the ceilings, we added gold leaf to the decorative fibrous plasterwork.

The joy of this project has been working hand in hand with our client to oversee a total transformation over the course of a year. This was a full interior service where we managed every aspect, from the garden landscaping to the soft furnishings and flooring, creating a beautiful, warm inviting home.
